The Early Childhood Defence Programs were co-designed and co-created by a research team, those with lived experience and those who support them. The Ian Potter Foundation, the University of New England and the Foundation of Graduates of Early Childhood Studies has funded the resources. The resources were created to address the lack of age and culturally-appropriate resources for children from Defence and Veteran families. Many of the resources are suitable for First Responder families.

The resources include research-based children's storybooks from lived experience narratives and interactives.
Each book has downloadable educational resources to accompany them and deepen childdren's learning. Audio, video and Key Word Sign read-along versions are also available.

There are multimedia online learning modules for parents, educators, Defence School Mentors, Education Development Liaison Officers, school counsellors and family and social workers to better understand and support these children.
